Easy homemade spaghetti sauce! This recipe is a family favorite.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 pound ground beef or 1/2 lb ground Italian sausage and 1/2 lb ground beef
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 15 ounce can crushed or pureed tomatoes (San Marzano tomatoes)
  • 14 oz can diced tomatoes (can use fire roasted)
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon fresh or dried parsley flakes
  • 2 garlic cloves diced
  • crushed red pepper flakes to taste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves optional
  • ½ cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • Spaghetti noodles for serving

Instructions
 

  • Season ground beef with salt and pepper.
  • In a large skillet, add the beef (and Italian sausage, if you are using it) and chopped onion and brown. Drain excess grease and set aside
  • Add crushed tomatoes, diced tomatoes, Italian seasoning, parsley, minced garlic, crushed red pepper, Worcestershire sauce, grated Parmesan cheese, and sugar to a large pot.
  • Stir well to combine and bring to a boil.
  • Reduce heat, add chopped basil, hamburger (and sausage) meat, and simmer for at least 30 minutes.

Notes

  • To use this recipe as a marinara sauce, omit the meat.
  • The sauce is perfect for lasagna, stuffed pasta shells, and other pasta dishes that call for marinara sauce.
